Sustainability is embedded into our governance, strategic priorities and risk
management approach, strengthening our resilience, competitiveness and future
readiness.
Dear Readers,
It gives me great pleasure to present the 12th edition of Asian Paints’ Sustainability Report. This report reflects our continued journey towards building a purposeful, responsible and resilient business, guided by our purpose of bringing joy to people’s lives. For us, sustainability is a way to deliver this purpose with greater accountability and long-term impact.
Sustainability is central to our long-term strategy and is shaped by the values that guide our decisions—Integrity, Customer Passion, Scientific Rigour, Audacity and Standing for Each Other. We see sustainability as a value creator that strengthens customer preference, stakeholder trust, operational efficiency, responsible capital allocation and talent engagement. With steady oversight from the Board, sustainability is embedded into our governance, strategic priorities and risk management approach, strengthening our resilience, competitiveness and future readiness.
This report presents our progress across four focus areas material to our business and stakeholders: Environment, Product Stewardship, Community, and Health and Safety. These priorities guide our efforts to reduce environmental impact, improve product sustainability, strengthen communities and embed safety and well-being across operations.
Over the years, this focus has delivered measurable progress. Against our 2013-14 baseline, we have reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emission intensity by 69%, specific hazardous waste by 70% and specific effluent by 79%. We replenished 589% of freshwater consumed at our decorative paint manufacturing facilities, increased recycled plastic in packaging to 40%, strengthened low-VOC and high-durability offerings, and sustained British Safety Council five-star certification across all decorative paint plants. We have also created meaningful difference in our communities through water, healthcare and skill-building initiatives.
As we scale our manufacturing footprint and pursue backward integration, we recognise the need to manage transitional impacts with rigour. At the same time, a significant opportunity now lies in extending our sustainability commitment beyond our own operations and into the wider value chain. Samaveta program, initiated a few years back, gives us a strong platform to work with partners on shared priorities and deepen sustainability outcomes across the ecosystem in which we operate.
Our commitment to our 2030 sustainability ambitions remains firm. We will continue to strengthen performance with discipline, collaboration and innovation, while balancing growth with responsibility and creating enduring value for all stakeholders.
I thank our employees, customers, suppliers, communities, shareholders and all other stakeholders for their continued trust and partnership. Your support remains central as we advance the next phase of our sustainability journey.
