DBiodiversity

Biodiversity conservation forms part of our broader nature-positive approach and environmental commitments. We remain focused on understanding our interactions with natural ecosystems and supporting the protection, recovery and long-term resilience of habitats in and around our areas of operation.

Given the nature of our activities, our direct biodiversity impact is limited. We use the Integrated Biodiversity Assessment Tool across manufacturing sites to map biodiversity-sensitive areas, drawing on the World Database on Protected Areas and IUCN definitions. These assessments help identify ecological sensitivities, dependencies on natural systems and the ways in which our operations interact with surrounding habitats.

Our approach is aligned with the priorities of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan. We assess site-level exposure to biodiversity-related threats such as habitat conversion, pollution, overexploitation, climate disruption and invasive species, and identify mitigation measures relevant to each manufacturing location.

Beyond site-specific measures, we recognise that biodiversity outcomes are linked to broader environmental stewardship. Our work on resource efficiency, pollution control, water conservation and community engagement supports habitat restoration and long-term ecosystem health across the regions where we operate.

Biodiversity park and green infrastructure development

As part of our site-level biodiversity efforts, one of our manufacturing locations developed a biodiversity park to enhance green cover, support local habitat creation and improve microclimate resilience while preserving existing tree cover and natural trail networks.

The intervention included a Miyawaki micro-forest with 4,500 trees planted across 1,500 m², along with additional tree and shrub plantations, curated gardens and a bio-pond aligned with the site’s natural drainage pattern.

The initiative has improved local green cover, strengthened habitat value and supported groundwater recharge through better percolation. The park also serves as a space for employee and community engagement and has been recognised by UPSIDA through certificates of gratitude.
